About Course

This qualification is suitable for learners working in any environment who will have a job role involving work at height activities.

This qualification covers requirements for the use of equipment, correctly selecting and using equipment safely and correct techniques when using equipment.

What next?

Individuals achieving this qualification can then progress onto:
• Highfield Level 1 International Award in the Principles of Health and Safety at Work
• Highfield Level 1 International Award in Health and Safety for Construction Labourers and Site Visitors
• Highfield Level 2 International Award in Risk Assessment.

Assessment Methods

The qualification is assessed using the Highfield assessment pack and is split into two component parts:
i. Part one: This component is assessed through demonstration of practical skills.
ii. Part two: This knowledge-based assessment requires learners to either: answer a series of short answer questions via written or oral responses.

2.1 Identify categories of personal fall protective equipment (PFPE) safety harnesses

2.2 Identify key differences between Mobile Elevated Work Platform category 3a (Mobile vertical) and 3b (Mobile boom) that may affect the risk

2.3 Identify key risk factors when selecting WAH equipment

2.4 Describe key elements in the safe use of ladders & steps

2.5 Give timescales for formal inspection on types of WAH equipment

3. Understand correct techniques to be used when using Work at Height (WAH) Equipment

3.1 Describe major risks from using working at height equipment

3.2 Describe the requirements of a rescue plan

3.3 Identify steps in the management hierarchy for work at height

4. Be able to use work at height equipment safely and effectively

4.1 Conduct a hazard spotting exercise for a work at height activity

4.2 Select, inspect, and fit harnesses for safe use

4.3 Demonstrate correct use of PPE during practical tasks

4.4 Demonstrate safe working procedures for rooftop access

4.5 Demonstrate the safe and correct use of: Leaning ladders, Step ladder, Podium steps, Mobile towers, Fixed scaffold, Mobile elevated work platform (MEWP)

Final Assessment

Learning outcomes 1-3 are assessed via knowledge assessment

Learning outcomes 4 is assessed via practical assessment
